DESCRIPTION:Kicking off our spring events\, the New York Philharmonic returns to Van Cortlandt Park as part of its beloved Concerts in the Parks series. This free\, long-standing community tradition invites audiences to experience the energy of live orchestral music in one of the Bronx’s most scenic outdoor settings. This year’s program features a dynamic performance of Saint-Saëns’s Cello Concerto No. 1 with Principal Cello Carter Brey\, alongside works by Copland\, Ravel\, and more\, culminating in a dazzling post-concert fireworks display. \nRSVP to join us below. SUMMARY:Masterclass with Pianist Vladimir Rumyanstev - Spring 2026
DESCRIPTION:Bronx School for Music presents a masterclass with pianist Vladimir Rumyantsev. \nJoin us at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Woodlawn on Wednesday\, June 10th from 6:30–8:30 PM for this unique learning experience\, as Mr. Rumyantsev shares his artistry and insight with our school community. \nThe program will begin with a 15-minute solo piano performance by Mr. Rumyantsev. Following the performance\, select students from the audience will be invited to perform and receive live coaching in front of their peers. \nAll are welcome to attend and observe! \nAbout Vladimir Rumyanstev \nVladimir Rumyantsev is an internationally acclaimed pianist\, celebrated for his virtuosity and profound interpretations of the piano’s vast repertoire. His talent emerged early\, and at just seven years old\, he made his debut at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory where he won Moscow’s Glinka competition. Rumyantsev received his foundational training at the Gnessin Moscow Special School for Music under Mikhail Khokhlov and later studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Sergey Dorensky\, Alexander Bakhchiev\, Elena Sorokina\, Pavel Nersessian and Nikolai Lugansky. He earned advanced degrees at the Mannes School of Music in New York under Pavlina Dokovska and is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at The Hartt School under the mentorship of Jose Ramos Santana. \nRumyantsev has performed worldwide at such prestigious venues as the Moscow Philharmonic\, Carnegie Hall\, Covent Garden\, the Mariinsky Theatre\, New York City Center\, The Kennedy Center\, the Great Guild in Riga\, the Dzintari Concert Hall and the Bolshoi Theatre as well as major theaters across China. He has appeared in such renowned festivals as the Golden Mask Festival in Moscow\, the Bermuda Piano Festival\, The Art of Piano Duo in Boston\, IKIF and the Mannes Summer Piano Festival in New York. His performances of Shostakovich and Stravinsky concertos led to collaborations with the Mariinsky Ballet. He has collaborated with conductors such as Valery Gergiev\, Georgy Garanyan\, Boris Gruzin\, and Daniel Zinn. \nRumyantsev’s performances have been revered by the press\, with The New York Times describing his playing of Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations as “excellent\,” and The Wall Street Journal noting his “potent” interpretation. In 2024 he recorded Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Sean Hickey for solo piano\, released in early 2025 by Sono Luminus. Praised by Gramophone for his “virtuosity always informed by awareness of resourcefulness and ambiguity\,” Rumyantsev most recently toured the world as a solo artist with Twyla Tharp Dance for her Diamond Jubilee and is producing his own concerts of piano and dance alongside Principal Dancer with American Ballet Theatre\, Skylar Brandt. On May 16\, Vladimir Rumyantsev will make his solo recital debut at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium. \nVladimir Rumyantsev is a Steinway Artist.

The concert will take place at the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx. Musicians sometimes forget to breathe while performing and this class will be an exciting way for students to start learning how to become in tune with their body through breathe and movement! \nThis class from 10:00am to 11:00am will be open to teens and adults. DESCRIPTION:Now in its fourth year\, Bronx School for Music’s annual Student Recital highlights the dedication and growth of students in private instrumental instruction. The recital will be held at the beautiful St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Woodlawn.
