
Melvin Rodriguez
Voice
Peurto Rican baritone Melvin Rodriguez began his musical education at the Escuela Libre de Música Ernesto Ramos Antonini in Mayaguez and his acting studies at the Centro de Adistramiento en Bellas Artes in Aguadilla. After graduating, he continued his training in Vocal Performance at the Interamerican University later transferring to the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music.
During his studies, Melvin was a part of the Opera de Puerto Rico chorus where he had the opportunity to be part of the opera Otello and also performed in a series of concerts which were part of the company’s season. he was part of the Zarzuela y Opereta Company singing in various productions.
Melvin’s professional singing and acting career began with the Centro de Adiestramiento en Bellas Artes de Aguadilla, Puerto Rico (CABA). He has since been a part of many opera and musical theater productions in the US and abroad. Role credits include the Cowardly Lion in The Wiz (OACSG), Mufasa and Simba in Lion King (CABA & OACSG), Mistoffeles in CATS (OACSG), Pedro in The Man of la Mancha (CABA), The Teen Angel in Grease (LRT) Triton in Little Mermaid (LRT), Goffredo in Rinaldo (Vozarteum), Pistola (ISOFOM) Goro in Los Claveles (IU) Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro scenes concert (ISOFOM). Recent awards includes: Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions District First Place(2019), NATS NYC District Competition First Place (2019).
Since moving to New York in 2017, Melvin has enjoyed his role as an educator joining the faculty of the Bronx School for Music and working as a teaching artist in the Harmony Program.
