Admission

Bronx School for Music offers private and group music lessons to children of the Bronx community. Students must be at least five years old to be eligible for private lessons. Students under the age of 5 must first take our Early Childhood Music Development Classes.

Because the Bronx School for Music ended the Spring term at capacity, new students will have to meet certain criteria to be accepted into the program for the Fall & Spring terms. Students interested in summer lessons will not have any restrictions for summer enrollment.

BSM will be prioritizing enrollment for children under the age of 9. Exceptions to this rule will only be made for summer lessons, where enrollment will be open to all ages. If your child is older than the age range for acceptance, please email [email protected] to inquire about enrollment eligibility or call us at 347-202-5402.

In addition, priority for lesson scheduling and enrollment will be given to families who take any of Bronx School for Music’s early childhood music development courses or private lesson preparatory classes.

New students wishing to study piano must be between the ages of 5 and 9 years old. Our admissions policies will be less strict in the summer session when our enrollment drops. If you want a guaranteed spot in the fall, we highly recommend taking summer lessons.

Adult Students: Because the Bronx School for Music is near capacity, we are obligated to prioritize placement in the program for children in the community. When Bronx School for Music can offer adult and senior lessons, we will let our community know.

Admission to Bronx School for Music may require audition if the school’s student retention rate between semesters is high and if the program is at capacity. Please contact the administrative office before enrolling in fall lessons to see if there is space still available.

To register, simply create an account in BSM’s online registration system, add students to the account, select courses for students, checkout and make a payment. We will be notified of registration after checkout is completed and a representative from our administrative office will be in touch to assign students to a lesson time.

If you miss BSM’s registration period at the start of each semester, do not worry! Students are admitted on a rolling basis, and we accept new students as long as there is room in our teachers’ schedules. New students who register after the registration period is closed should contact the administrative office to see if there is still space available.

Lesson Scheduling

Lesson times are determined after registration is completed and submitted. Priority for lesson times is given to returning students, students actively enrolled in lessons, students who have taken early-childhood music, and students who have completed Prelude Prep. Lesson times for new students are assigned on a first-come-first-served basis. Although we try our best to accommodate students’ lesson-time preferences, lesson schedules are at or near capacity and preferred availability may be limited. In the event that we are not able to schedule a lesson time, a full-refund will be returned to the student/family who registered online.

Tuition Installment Plan:

Students or their parents/guardians must pay tuition at registration in order to be placed in a teacher’s lesson schedule.

For students/families unable to pay tuition in full at the start of each semester, BSM’s payment-deferral plan allows students to pay tuition in two installments or on a monthly basis. Monthly installments are only offered to customers who have a cart balance greater than $1,500. A two-payment installment plans is offered to all customers regardless of checkout cart total. The two-installment plan takes half the semester’s tuition, registration fees, and the $20 installment fee. Please note that the monthly payment plan is not offered during the summer because the term length is already a monthly payment plan.

Payment methods: We accept payments in credit card, debit card, ACH transfer or Zelle. Those wishing to pay for lessons with cash, money order, ACH transfer or Zelle should contact the administrative office. Students or families who register and sign up for the tuition-installment plan must pay by credit or debit card online and add a card to hold on file.
