
Deepti Kumar
Early Childhood Music
Indian-American Soprano Deepti Kumar currently resides in Brooklyn, NYC where she spends
her time singing opera, teaching students, and petting her rescue cat Snoopy. She strongly
believes that anyone can sing and she wants to be an advocate for students of color within the
classical voice field. Previous performances include several solo recitals, solos with the Eastman
Chorale, over 13 years of choral experience, church section leader, Opera Scenes, Sewanee
Winter Opera Intensive, and the CoOperative Young Artist Program. Deepti is a long-time
student of renowned master teacher Ruth Hennessy (Hennessy Breath & BodyWorkTM).
Deepti has an extensive teaching resume and her pedagogical technique is rooted in aligning the
mind body connection to optimize learning. She has taught students of all ages for over 5 years.
Deepti has taught Early Childhood music for several years and loves to introduce new students to
music while building key musical milestones such as reading, steady beat, pitch matching, etc.
She believes that anyone is capable of making music. Deepti also has experience in teaching
advanced vocal technique to high-school and middle-school aged students. Her experience has
spanned several teaching environments such as: the Eastman Community Music School (early
childhood), inner-city public schools, ROCmusic Collaborative – non-profit/El-Sistema, online,
and suburban schools.
